TalkiPlay is a community-focused mobile app designed to connect multicultural families, helping them build local friendships and a support network through real-world interactions.
Year :

Industry :
Tech
Client :
Ailum Dev
Project Duration :
4 weeks

Problem :
Multicultural families, particularly those new to an area, often face the challenge of finding a like-minded community. It can be difficult to connect with other parents and children who share similar languages, cultural backgrounds, or interests, leading to feelings of isolation for both adults and kids. The lack of a dedicated and secure platform makes the search for these connections inefficient and often unsuccessful.

Solution :
TalkiPlay provides a centralized platform for families to discover and connect with one another. Users can create a detailed family profile that includes information about adults and children, languages spoken, and hobbies. The app facilitates connections through a "like" system; a mutual match between two families unlocks further interaction. Once connected, families can use private chat and video call features to get to know each other better. The ultimate goal is to foster real-life friendships by allowing families to create and join "Playdates" or attend larger community events integrated into the app.

Challenge :
The main challenge for TalkiPlay is achieving a critical mass of users to ensure the platform is valuable in various geographical locations. Furthermore, as the platform is centered around families and children, ensuring user safety is paramount. This requires the implementation of robust and reliable moderation systems, including automated profanity filters , an accessible reporting and blocking feature for users , and an effective administrative backend for human oversight to manage reports and take action against malicious users. Balancing rapid community growth with stringent safety protocols will be essential for long-term trust and success.
Summary :
TalkiPlay is a mobile application specifically designed as a platform for connecting multicultural families. It addresses social isolation by enabling users to find and connect with other local families through filterable profiles based on criteria like spoken languages, children's ages, and interests. The connection process begins with a mutual "match," which then grants access to private communication tools such as chat and video calls. The app is built to encourage offline interactions, featuring a system for organizing "Playdates" and displaying local events. Safety is a core component, supported by content moderation features, user reporting tools, and a dedicated administrative panel for supervising the community.
